East Bay Book Club Hosts First Meeting

By Katherine Hart, Ed. D.

Fierce ConversationsI love books. It’s a love affair that started in the 2nd grade when I realized I could borrow as many books as my arms would hold from the local hometown library. So imagine my delight when I joined the Financial Women SF monthly book club and got to discuss a book and share life experiences. And, for those too busy to read the book, the facilitator Julianna Iran shared that skimming the synopsis off Amazon qualified as having read the book.

Unfortunately my monthly enjoyment ended abruptly when the meeting date changed to a conflicting week night. Because of Julianna’s encouragement, along with Sue Mazzetti, I am excited to sponsor a monthly book club for Financial Women East Bay. Our first meeting date will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at The Domain Oakland, Resident Lounge, 1389 Jefferson Street, Oakland. Our first book is Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work and in Life One Conversation at a Time by Susan Scott.

While our first book coincides with the SF book club April read, future title selections will be chosen by book club attendees. And while I’m pleased to facilitate the first few meetings, my goal will be to involve other attendees to also facilitate. The mission is to have the Financial Women East Bay book club be for and facilitated by women who enjoy books, learning new ideas, and sharing with each other. If you’re too busy to read the book, remember that skimming the synopsis on Amazon counts for reading the book. If you’re in the East Bay (or beyond), come join us on Thursday, April 20!

If the Silicon Valley or San Francisco would be more convenient for you, consider joining one of those book clubs. Abby-Gail Chaffatt achaffatt@gmail.com can provide information about the Silicon Valley club and Julianna Iran juliannairan@gmail.com can provide information about the San Francisco club.

If you’d like to learn a bit about the books the San Francisco club read last year, join them as they spend a few minutes of their upcoming meeting recapping. A list of the books and authors follows.
