Sold Out Private Screening of "Girl Rising"

By Lucinda Colberg

Over 50 FWSF participants joined Charles Schwab & Co. employees for a private screening of "GIRLRISING." This sold out event was held at the Schwab Center in San Francisco on May 29, 2014. From Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, GIRLRISING is an innovative new feature film which tells the stories of nine extraordinary girls from nine countries who overcame incredible odds to get an education.

About the movie, Charmaine Clay, co-chair of the FWSF Lifestyles committee said, "I brought my daughter and three of her friends to GIRLRISING and it really had an impact on them. We had a lively discussion about it on the way home in the car. Girls are the next generation and we need to help them get an education and have equal rights. The movie showed how doing this can change the world."

Like the 65 million girls around the world who dream of going to school, what the girls want most is to be students: to learn. And now, by sharing their personal journeys, they have become teachers. By watching, GIRLRISING we learned that one girl with courage is a revolution.
