Explore Cutting Edge Research from the Haas Real Estate And Financial Market Lab

Industry Leadership Series

City HomesOur economy is heavily influenced by the real estate market, as shown by the subprime mortgage crisis of 2008. Government responded by increasing regulation, and while the real estate market and the economy have improved since then, you may not be aware of many critical issues that remain.

Nancy Wallace from the Haas School of Business Fisher Real Estate and Financial Market Laboratories is going to discuss some of the research underway at the Lab, including:

  • Funding flows: Why are mostly wealthy borrowers securing residential mortgages and what can be done to improve the middle class’s ability to qualify for desirable mortgages?
  • Housing prices: How do we develop more reliable indices of house prices that consider more factors beyond sales prices?
  • Energy efficiency: How should we measure the high levels of energy consumption in commercial real estate and develop a means for banks to factor risks caused by this energy use in their analyses?

Haas School of Business Professor Nancy Wallace is a thought leader at the Fisher Real Estate and Financial Market Laboratories. The Lab is on the cutting edge of economic research and “big data” analyses of the real estate asset and capital markets. Their mission is to pursue scientific advances in valuation methods and systemic risk management practices needed for trading and monitoring activities in these areas. Nancy brings to her analysis her 30 years of experience as a real estate professor at the Haas School, as well as her recent experience as a member of both the Model Validation Council of the Federal Reserve and the Financial Research Advisory Committee of the Office of Financial Research.

Join us for this thought-provoking presentation to learn about the latest perspectives on these important issues.
