Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and SF Supervisor Katy Tang will share their visions for how the Bay Area can continue to foster economic development and enrich life for those who live and work in the Bay Area. Their discussion will be moderated by Janet Reilly, named as a woman who could be President and as one of the Most Influential Women In Business. Janet has deep knowledge of political, economic and social issues in California. Our lunch will touch on important issues such as continued job growth, public and private partnerships, equal pay, housing, attracting talent to the Bay Area, education, and building communities. Join us for a roundtable luncheon of what the future holds for us and our families who work and/or live in these two cities on the Bay.

SPEAKERS

Libby Schaaf, Oakland Mayor

Libby SchaafOakland Mayor Libby Schaaf was elected in November 2014, after serving one term on the Oakland City Council. She previously was Chief of Staff to the City Council and a top aide to then Mayor Jerry Brown. A lifelong volunteer, Mayor Schaaf’s two decades of public service experience began while she was a young attorney and co-founded the non-profit Oakland Cares, which organized and implemented hundreds of volunteer community-improvement projects across the city. She later left her legal career at Oakland’s largest law firm to build and run the first centralized volunteer program for Oakland public schools at the Marcus Foster Institute. Mayor Schaaf is proud of her record of assisting small businesses with zero percent loans, speeding up police recruitment, improving governmental transparency, and reducing juvenile offenders’ recidivism, among other initiatives. 

Katy Tang, San Francisco Supervisor

Katy TangSan Francisco Supervisor Katy Tang was appointed by Mayor Lee to serve as the District 4 representative in February 2013, and was then twice elected to continue her service. Previously she was a legislative aide to Supervisor Carmen Chu and worked in Mayor Newsom’s Office of Public Policy and Finance. Supervisor Tang currently is Vice Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee and the Rules Committee and active on many fronts. Supervisor Tang has spearheaded the first ever district-wide strategic planning effort, called the Sunset District Blueprint, to identify initiatives to improve the neighborhood. She also has been active in addressing many issues, including the City’s housing challenges, ending human trafficking, and dealing with the effects of the drought.

Janet Reilly

Janet has a diverse background in business, politics and community involvement in San Francisco. She hosted a monthly newsmagazine television show called “The Mix” on NBC. Janet has twice run for public office, including for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She served as President of the Board of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, was the co-founder of Clinic by the Bay, and served on the boards of the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco Film Society, and Catholic Charities CYO.
