The 30th Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon

The luncheon to recognize the 2015 scholarship awardees was held on June 4, 2015 at the City Club of San Francisco. This FWSF signature event is always well attended and awe inspiring and this year was no exception from the high level of planning led by Linda Jackson, 2015 Scholarship Vice President and Colleen Lingane and Paige Venable, 2015 Scholarship Committee Co-Chairs to the motivational and often tear jerking speeches given by the various recipients and the heart-warming gratitude shared in an amazing speech by the 2014 Scholarship Recipient, Stephanie Hyde (read the speech). It was also the opportunity to formally introduce the FWSF’s 20th Annual Financial Woman of the Year, Carrie Dolan, CEO of Lending Club, who will be further recognized at the Financial Women of the Year event to be held on 30 September 2015.

Stephanie Hyde 2015 Scholarship Luncheon Speech

My name is Stephanie Hyde. Almost one year ago exactly I stood before you as an undergraduate scholarship recipient. I remember the feelings of that day vividly: I was so nervous to speak in front of so many people, much like I am today. I was excited to be joining such a remarkable organization. I was proud that I had been chosen for such an honor. I was humbled by the company of my fellow recipients. And of course, I was deeply grateful for the opportunity that you saw fit to offer me. When my turn came to speak, I offered my words of gratitude and took my seat with the confidence that nothing that came out of my mouth was coherent English. Little did I know what a pivotal moment in my life accepting that award would be.

KPMG and FWSF host On Board Bootcamp

Women have made strides achieving seats on corporate boards in recent years and corporations are starting to understand the value that diverse boards can bring to the overall company and to the bottom line. In 2014, the number of women on FORTUNE 1000 boards rose slightly to 17.7%, but there is still room to grow…and that creates an opportunity for qualified executive women. Boot CampTo help accelerate this growth, KPMG and FWSF hosted a day-long “On Board Bootcamp” on June 24th at the KPMG offices in San Francisco. The program was designed to help women who aspire to work on corporate, advisory or non-profit boards, chart a path and enhance skills to become an attractive candidate.
