Shamila MashayekhiGraduate Student, Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS), Menlo College
Please share a little about yourself:
I am a graduate student in the MSIS program at Menlo College, where I’ve maintained a 3.92 GPA while balancing academics with my responsibilities as the sole caregiver for my son, who has a chronic genetic illness. We moved to the U.S. last October for his treatment, and since then I’ve been pursuing opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
I am passionate about technology, data, and using information systems to solve real-world challenges, especially in ways that can improve financial decision-making and quality of life. Personally, I find joy in learning, building meaningful connections, and finding resilience through both my studies and caregiving role. Joining FWSF has given me the chance to be part of a supportive community of accomplished women, and I’m excited to contribute and learn from others here.
What inspired you to join FWSF?
I was inspired to join FWSF because of the opportunity to connect with a strong network of accomplished women and to benefit from the mentorship the organization provides. I value learning from others’ experiences, building meaningful relationships, and growing both personally and professionally through this supportive community.
What’s your favorite part of FWSF?
As a new member, I’m most looking forward to engaging with the community, building lasting connections, and learning from the diverse experiences of other members. I’m also excited about the mentorship opportunities and the chance to grow personally and professionally within such a supportive network.
What’s your best career tip for women working in finance or financial services?
My best career tip is to embrace continuous learning and stay adaptable, even when faced with challenges. Seek out mentorship and build a strong support network—you don’t have to navigate your career alone. Resilience, curiosity, and community can open doors to new opportunities and lasting success in finance.
